"Keating deserves nearly as much hate as Howard for passing the legislation enabling all the privatization. Keating did it so he could sell Qantas and CommBank, Howard just turned up the dial. https://jacobin.com/2021/03/australian-labor-party-paul-keating-privatization-neoliberalism https://michaelwest.com.au/privatisation-is-the-jury-really-still-out-after-30-years/ Keating had a massive boner for privatizing, but because he could drop a good zinger people tended to like him. (If you hate Howard for his immigration policy and posturing, then fine)"
"Qantas used to fly 747SPs into Wellington but Air NZ did once land a B747: [Wellington Airport - ANZ - 747 Landing | Not often seen at W… | Flickr](https://www.flickr.com/photos/16637594@N00/88885307/) read the comments and video: [Wellington Airport 1987 - Air New Zealand Boeing 747](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag94jP_NXfo)"
"In the 80s or 90s Qantas regularly flew the B747-SP into Wellington as it was a stubby lightweight Muscle-Jet SP stood for special performance. Then a Gold livery Continental B747 was fogged out of AKL and diverted to CHC but the didn't have enough fuel. So they performed a successful emergency landing at Wellington with nearly dry fuel tanks. I was being driven to the Airport at the time and saw the full size B747 with its tail hanging over Cobham drive. It had only just landed to the North and was turning back to to the terminal. I thought "uh oh that's not right" as news had not reached the media as it had only just happened. Later AirNZ did some B747 performance tests on Wellington airport as a certified diversion aurport for its fleet of full size heavy B747-400s."
